Spanish King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia arrived in Japan on Sunday for a six-day tour of the nation, which they last visited a decade ago.
The Japanese government will hold an official welcome ceremony early Monday, followed by a state banquet in the evening hosted by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko in honour of the Spanish royal couple.
Juan Carlos and Sofia, who will stay in Japan until November 14, will visit various areas outside Tokyo, including the ancient capital of Kyoto.
Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito visited Spain in July.
